Henley Research's Spring Newsletter

Here is the text of the April newsletter we mailed to our client and contacts database:

It's been a few months since we last updated you on progress here at Henley Research (it was just before Christmas actually) so we thought it was time for a quick update.

We have been busy
We've been keeping good and busy and are looking to increase the number of researchers in our team. Having a team of nine as we do at present gives us good flexibility in terms of resourcing assignments, and, even if we are busy, we make it a priority to be able to offer our regular clients a quick start to a new assignment. We can also look to allocate more than one researcher to an assignment, which can be an advantage in terms of moving quickly towards identifying good candidates. If we can act as some sort of barometer for activity in executive recruitment, there does seem to have been good pick-up over the last couple of months.

Our website
We've done a little work on our website. Under the heading 'Assignment Showcase' you can access summaries of some of the assignments we have been working on. This shows the sort of roles, salaries and sectors we have been getting involved in. We've also put in some information about our team, including pictures for those of you who haven't met your favourite researcher there is now the opportunity to put a face to the name and the voice! As a little light hearted relief from the seriousness of the research we do, we have also posed ten questions to each of our Henley team, and recorded their answers. Please do take a look and find out more about what makes us tick. We are going to change the questions every couple of months to keep it fresh!

3,000 assignments
Within the next few weeks (and certainly before we update you with our news again) we will have taken on our 3,000th Henley Research assignment. We're proud to have achieved this milestone some 15 years since the company was founded, and look forward to the next thousand. On a serious note, it does mean that, as a 'generalist' research company we have a track record in a very wide range of sectors. Please do contact us for details of recent experience in whatever sector you are working and we can supply summaries of relevant recent assignments.

Our core values
We thought it helpful to articulate what we mean by the 'Henley Factor' - this is a term we use internally to reinforce how we differentiate our services.  We came up with the following:

Communication
We always aim to look at the work that we produce through the eyes of both our search consultants and the end company to make sure that the information is as complete as possible and where appropriate adds value to the assignment.

Sensitive to our candidates' surroundings and circumstances
Most people that we approach are not actively seeking a move and more often than not these days are operating in open plan environments. We always make sure that people are in a position to talk freely before launching into a conversation with them.

Never leave a candidate in the lurch
We will pursue our clients for feedback regarding the candidates that we have submitted. Even if the feedback is that we need to turn them off, it is important that we communicate this to them as we never know when we might need to speak with them again.

Teamwork
Close knit team, all working in the same office and therefore able to bounce ideas off each other and share knowledge regarding some fairly challenging assignments.

Reaching areas of industry that databases/ad responses may not reach
Research means that you have access to a population of individuals who are not actively seeking a move, and therefore may not have seen the position advertised in the press or online. Whilst LinkedIn and other such data sources are fabulous tools, we will always employ the more traditional research and networking techniques to make sure that we have covered the necessary ground. A number of our candidates who were successfully placed in recent times didn't actually have a LinkedIn profile!

Extensive knowledge, experience and bags of creativity
Our team is made up of people from a variety of nationalities and cultures, which allows us to view things from different perspectives. In addition, our huge range of sector experience means that we are not only capable of handling most assignments, but also enthusiastic about the expertise we can bring which goes far beyond the obvious search areas. Our co-operative work ethic supports this aim to be imaginative and creative in our thinking. You will have access to our knowledge having completed nearly 3,000 assignments and our finely tuned research techniques. We offer a "good ear" to interpret signs and intimations and pursue intuition.

Some news on Henley people
Excitement is building in our office ahead of Michelle Brown's wedding day in late May. We wish Michelle and Robin a great day and a happy and healthy life together. Mark Baird is rehearsing for his role in 'Sailor, Beware!' at Rugby Theatre in early July. And, as we often get asked by clients and other contacts as to the wellbeing of former MD Adrian Bird - Adrian is in fine form, enjoying a very active retirement and still in contact with everyone here.

Easter
Best wishes to all for a pleasant Easter break. We will be closed on the bank holidays, but otherwise working hard on your behalf to provide you with meaningful intelligence and great candidates. Thanks again for your support.

Kind regards
Mark Senior
