We have enjoyed publicising Henley’s 25th Birthday and it is interesting to look back at a news item we published almost exactly five years ago, at the tender age of 20:

“We consider ourselves to be versatile and able to support our clients with executive research and talent identification exercises in a wide range of sectors and geographical territories. Generalist is another word used – we prefer to see ourselves as having sector and country expertise vested in different members of our 18 person research team. Clients often ask which are the most vibrant areas of business for us at the moment.  Given our versatility, this is more often than not a good guide to where there is a lot of activity in senior executive recruitment currently.

Over the last 3-6 months the following sectors have been particularly buoyant – automotive, pharmaceuticals, financial services and construction/civil engineering. The “hot” territories are the UK, Germany, USA and Switzerland, though we are working across the world including sub-Saharan Africa, Singapore and China at present.”

So much has changed since 2015, and in the last few months in particular.  Since Covid-19 hit us all earlier in the year, the most buoyant sectors for Henley have been pharmaceuticals, consumer healthcare, fmcg, distribution and logistics, technology, fintech, and, interestingly, retail. There is much talk of the demise of the traditional retail sector but in reality there is incredible change and transformation going on. This in itself leads to mandates for searches and mapping exercises to find talented executives with the right skill sets and influencing skills to change a business.

Geographically we are grateful for our international spread and the versatility and cultural diversity of our research team.  Currently we are working in the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Italy, Finland, UAE, Saudi Arabia, China, USA and South Africa.
